Moving House

Today, I promise… I shall do some catching up on all my blogging. So, where have I disappeared to for the past 3 weeks?

Well, for one, I went back to Singapore to move out to my new place. Where? Secret… hahaha… let’s just say its somewhere along the red line. Gimme a buzz on MSN if u really wanna know, wanna jio me for evening jogs, gym, breakfast(pls, not so early yah!), lunch, dinner or supper!! :D Moving house is not fun… seriously… I absolutely HATE packing. Especially when I have so much stuff + piano. Lucky for me, I hired movers… coz I have a piano. Didn’t have to lift a finger. My job is just to pack and unpack. Before actually moving in, we went do a thorough spring clean of the place as well as to arrange (…or rather imagine where to put) our stuff. One day spent on shopping at Ikea and those neighbourhoody places at Ang Mo Kio to buy stuff for the house. We got chairs, cushions, kitchen utensils, a full length mirror each (mirror mirror on the wall….), bedsheets, comforter, dish cleaning sponge, floor detergent …. etc etc.. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee so FUN to to do ‘aunty shopping’!!

So, Kee and I moved in to our new place on 2nd July.

Goodbye Floravale, Freddy, Rachie, Becky and Shan... :(

Yeah… so the place doesn’t look very homey yet… but these things take time. Probably over the next few months we’ll add in more stuff. We’ll have a housewarming party or something later on once we’ve settled the important stuff.

Aunty Chua’s Finishing School For Girls…

Monday, May 25th, 7:17 pmFoodRSS 2.0

You remember how the Gwendoline in Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers series brags about her attending finishing school in Switzerland? Finishing schools are private schools for girls that emphasize training in cultural and social activities. As the name implies, it follows upon completion of ordinary school and is intended to complete the educational experience.

In a way, I just had my first class at ‘finishing school’. Just spent an evening learning how to cook a few dishes from Aunty Chua. Our church ppl in Alor Setar are really blessed to have such a good cook around. We always have good food during meetings, camps, parties, etc. So, what did I learn today? Plenty…. about 6 things in total lah… assam prawns, taucu pork ribs, toufu omelette, bamboo shoots, green chilli prawns and oxtail stew……… mmmmmmmmmmmmm…… Didn’t get to learn my tiramisu this round. Stupid Kedai Kek Sayang ran out of stock of ladyfinger biscuits… Arghhh… Nevermind lah…. I’ll either do some of my own experimenting (but I will need to buy some kahlua/amaretto/coffee liquer for that…hmmm…. who’s going to drink up the rest?), or learn it fr Aunty Chua another time.

Can’t wait to do some experimenting with cooking once I settle down at my new place.

Officially a graduate.

Today’s the day my life begins.
Today I become a citizen of the world.
Today I become a grown up.
Today I become accountable to someone other than myself and my parents.
Accountable for more than my grades.
Today I become accountable to the world, to the future, to all the possibilities life has to offer.
Starting today, my job is to show up, wide-eyed and willing and ready.
For what? For anything. For everything.
To take on life. To take on love. To take on the responsibility and possibility.
Today my friends our lives begin and I for one, can’t wait.

Grey’s Anatomy

Aptly put… this quote was taken from one of the recent Grey’s Anatomy episodes where one of the patients was a valedictorian for her graduation ceremony that day.

As of today, I am officially an Nanyang Technological University graduate with a B. Eng (Hons) in Computer Science. Results were actually out at midnight, but then, I was on a bus ride back home. Wonderful feeling to know that this semester, I did alot better than the previous semesters. Kinda hard to believe that I’m actually pulling up my CGPA with final year subjects, huh? My FYP… gosh… it’s like a total turnaround! Sometime in March, I was on the verge of freaking out coz… well… it was in a mess…. a HUGE MESS! Somehow, by some wonder of God, I managed to secure a B+. Better than expected. Ironically, the subject which I spent the least time in lectures, assignments and mugging for exams, the grade was the best of all my core modules. How disgusting! Does that imply I should skip more lectures, put less effort in assignments and study one day before the paper? Oh well, doesn’t apply anymore. I’ve graduated remember???? Yaye!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok… fine.. so big deal… what’s next? Job applications… So al little update on the status of my job applications. I’ve literally sent in so many applications that I don’t really wanna look at my resume ever again. Buttering up myself in cover letters and resumes kinda puts me off. No choice la… I’ve been degraded to a trading item. Want a job? Sell yourself.

Just yesterday, I was invited to attend a briefing for the SMRT Management Trainee Programme. Little did I know till I was already there, that the “briefing” was actually an opportunity for the SMRT HR staff to observe us. “Games” were actually tools to test our teamwork, a mini debate to probably check out our analytical skills, our response to on the spot bombarding…. does seem like a stress meter…. as well as the Q&A to see how we presented ourselves and our ideas. The most stressful “briefing” I’ve been to so far, considering I wasn’t prepared for this at all…. but it was good in a sense… got to know a bunch of new aquaintences and got a very much detailed account of essence of the program and the company. I’m glad I got invited. Apparently, 2000 over ppl submitted their resumes. My briefing was the last batch of about 30-40 people. Now, don’t tell me they repeated that same briefing 50 times! Errr.. I don’t think so…. so, probably people there at the briefing were already somewhat shortlisted. Another round of shorlisting was done during the event itself, and all we can do is cross our fingers for a phone call or an email from them for an interview within the next 1 month. Maybe I’ll cross my toes too, just in case. :P

Right now, what at home? I’m going to learn how to cook! :P Must go and find my cooking shifu sometime soon. I just ate some of her beef pies this afternoon… Now, that’s something I must know how to make on my own when I’m craving for really good food! Anyway, I need some of her excellent cooking expertise to keep myself pacified with good home cooked food. That’s the problem with staying out on your own. Nobody to cook food for you. You want to eat? You cook yourself! Time to start compiling my own recipe book! :D  I have also instructed Miss Piggy to learn some classic Indian dishes from her mom while she’s rotting at home. YES! I’m dreaming of the curries, chutneys, pratas, chappatis, naans…. ooooo… list goes on forever! But this being Paro’s first go at proper cooking, I’ll be more realistic. If I get food poisoning, you know who to fine $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000?? :P

My visit to the dentist… and our house rental

Friday, May 15th, 3:32 amRandom ThoughtsRSS 2.0

Again, it’s time to go to JB for my dental appointment. I’ve been doing this for the past what… 5 years? I dread travelling all the way there just to tighten a few wires! For one, I have to wake up super early… and everyone knows I’m not a morning person. Secondly, I always get nagged to be careful, bla bla bla when I go coz that place is full of snatch thieves, rapists and who knows what else? Even Mas Selamat was recently found hiding there. No peace of mind when I go. But, oh well, looking on the brighter side, my parent’s have their RM500 well spent – 5 years of dental treatment and my dazzling white smile at the end of this whole process. Try getting a private orthodontist to do that for you! RM500 would probably pay for less than 5 appointments. In Singapore, orthodontic treatment can cost anything from S$1000- S$3000 on average!

Probably the one thing I look forward to is the shopping I can do after my appointment. I don’t go anywhere other than City Square coz that place is the most convenient and the nearest to the checkpoint. Plus, they have TWO F.O.S. outlets there! My favourite shopping place in Malaysia. Hehe… Why doesn’t the stupid F.O.S. outlet in Singapore carry nicer clothes?!!??!!

Today’s  dental appointment was pretty horrible. I waited for 1 freaking hour just to get my name called to the orthodontic treatment room! I waited another something like 20 minutes in the scary chair for the ortho dentist to tend to my teeth. I’m glad I have this dentist. He’s the most senior dentist there. I oso tend to prefer male dentists, coz their hands are steadier and more firm. My gums have been poked and violated by many nurses and incompetant intern dentists. Today was the ultimate. After the dentist saw my teeth, he instructed the intern to remove my A1 bands (even I know what A1’s are!) first while he checked on another patient. That intern was so dumb to the point that she had to ask the nurse if the thing she was poking at in my mouth was an A1!!! Taking out the rubber bands are easy as pie. She fumbled lots, couldn’t take it out with less than 3 tries for each bracket, pricked my gums, dropped bands on my shirt, and dropped the dental probe on me! When she does scaling for me to clean up the cement, she sprays water all over my face! Stupid. WTH! Thank goodness that was all the dentist instructed her to do. I was really tempted to tell her to stop and let another dentist take it out for me. For the greater good of mankind, she should fail and never become a dentist!!! Anyway, today will probably be my second last visit to the dentist. YAYE! Can take out soon!!!!! SOON! I’ll have pearly white teeth for graduation! Lalalalalalala!

On another note, was chatting with the cab driver on my way back from the dentist to City Square. Apparently my Bahasa Melayu is still ‘boleh pakai’. Hehe… That’s nice to know (since I have not used it in a very loooooooooooooooooong time)…. He commented that I speak Bahasa well and don’t have the ‘pelat cina’.

Felt so itchy to buy more clothes fr F.O.S. today… but I had to restrain myself. I’m going to be ‘pokkai’ by the end of the day… Paro, Kee and I signed our house tenancy agreement today. I read the clauses until I wanna headeache liao. The language! Can’t they just use simple comprehensible ENGLISH?????? No. They must use bombastic sentences to intimidate you. Anyway, we met the landlord and his newly wedded wife for the first time today. Young couple… nice and friendly ppl. They just stay 2 floors above our place. Dunno good annot… haha… but aiyah… as long as we don’t create trouble or anything, should be fine. Took a second look at the house again just now and picked our rooms. I want the blue room! but it’s not going to be blue soon. We requested for the house to be whitewashed. The place will definitely look brighter once that’s done. The owners are pretty nice to buy us new furniture like wardrobes and beds. The old ones there are really REALLY OLD! I also requested for study tables… hopefully they can buy la… but if they don’t, then if i really need one, I’ll have to get one on my own. Later lah… see how things go… We’re moving in last day of May. Our new home!! So, exciting! Kee and I are already talking about doing auntie stuff like buying broom and mop. I wan vacuum cleaner! Hehehehehehe….

More teddies!

Today, SC, Husain and I went to JP for breakfast and to watch Wolverine. While waiting for the show to start, we went walking around, played a game of basketball at the game arcade, and stopped by Precious Thots.

Precious Thots has been my favourite shop ever since I first moved to Singapore in JC1. Everytime I visited a shopping mall with a Precious Thots outlet, I would definitely pop by. Tones of Precious Moments merchandise sold there. The stuff is pretty expensive, so I usually go in just to drool at them. If I do buy something, it’s probably like an ez-link card holder, or a bookmark. :P

These days, I’ve sort of grown out of the obsessive shop visiting… :P I still like Precious Moments, but I like Forever Friends bears even more!!!! I just LOVE that bear….especially that pink tint on its cheek! Rosy cheeks. Heheh… Took some pics in the shop… hehe… Luckily they din throw me out!

Graduation season is coming and these shops have cleverly stocked up on their graduation bears…
