Class of 2009

A big day for us SCE-ians and proud parents. So exciting! Haha… we’ve been waiting for this day for ages. It’s a mark in our lives. We are officially university graduates with a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science).

We were in the 10am ceremony, so we had to report by 9am. I woke up so freaking early, but not early enough, so I still had to cab to school. -_- Eugene and I were one of the first few to arrive… then Theresia and the others. The convo ceremony was pretty boring… good thing it wasn’t that long. Only a speech by the guest speaker and after the award ceremony, the valedictorian speech which was pretty entertaining.

Convocations videos are here:

Convos are pretty messy… You have to juggle between your family and your friends. You want to take pics with your family and your friends… When you take pics with your family, you’re missing out snapshots with your coursemates. When you’re snapping pics with friends, you have to ditch your family. I don’t like. It was pretty hard to get everyone to take a big group pic. So, in the end, I just told everyone, “Outside in 5 minutes to throw mortar board!”. Then everyone ‘guai guai’ went outside. Haha….

my dearest family

through thick and thin... 4 years later...

I bumped into my FYP supervisor and managed to snap a pic with him. Oh… memories of torturous FYP…. hahahaha. During the convo, Joey and I were curious about the academic dresses the profs on stage were wearing and came up with all kinds of explanations for the different colours and styles. Mana tahu… later, I asked Theresia’s FYP prof, who was also our Software Eng II tutor, and he told us that they were given the choice to choose any one they liked. They like blue… take blue… like orange… take orange. Tiaung…. haha… He still remembers our tutorial group ppl as “the tutorial that I have to go for just 6 ppl…”. Lol. That’s how big our tutorial group was. It was fun though… coz it was less formal and we could chat with the prof about random stuff like his research, studies and stuff after going through our tutorial qns. Also, later, SC and I met the Teaching Assistant (TA) who helped us in our Java labs in Year 1! That time, he was a Masters student. Today, he graduated with a PhD! Peng… He still remembers my name!! He was like, “I remember you. Deborah rite?”. Omg. 3 years never see him liao leh! We had fun disturbing him in Year 1 coz he keeps hovering over me while I’m trying to do my lab asignment. So hard to do stuff when you have this shadow over you. (I was so lousy at coding then summore… ) I used to tell him to stop it and go away. Haha. But I must say, he was the friendliest and most helpful TA we had. :)

With our TA...

I stole his puffy cap for a moment there...

Finally, after all the picture taking, photo and goodie bag collecting, Kee and I went for lunch (possibly my last time!) at the Executive Cafe. Tired. HUNGRY!

my darling kee kee... and the BIG tubby bear from Piggy and her.. :D

….. and here are my grad gifts… :) :):) Thank you! XOXOXOXOXO…

… btw…. I lost my favourite G2000 skirt… must have left it in the toilet when changing out of my formals into gloriously comfortable jeans and t-shirt… or dropped it somewhere along the way. Sad. :(

SCE Graduation Evening 09

Tuesday, July 28th, 3:12 amEvents, Friends, SchoolRSS 2.0

I keep on having to back post coz I’m either distracted doing other stuff or I’m too lazy to blog.

These 2 weeks have been quite busy… starting with the SCE Graduation Evening two Saturdays back… a night organized by our school for us 09 graduates… did I mention, F.O.C.? :D So nice hor… most schools held theirs at hotels, while we had our dinner at the NTU Alumni Club. I had already told my friends months ago, pay or no pay, we all MUST go considering we never attended any Dinner & Dances in all our 4 years in SCE. I made it compulsory. I think Tat Sin must be glad he’s away in Boston while this is going on… :P

Dawei getting his studio shot

I don’t know about the guys but we gals have been cracking our heads for ages about what to wear… Each time we go out, we would start discussing. We finally made up our minds to wear something simple. Dress code was supposed to be smart casual. Believe it or not… this is the first time I’m seeing my gal classmates wearing dresses! EVER! Hahaha… Our door gift was an umbrella… which I haven’t opened even till now. It’s so big that I don’t really see myself bringing it out anywhere. SCE even engaged a professional photographer to take nice studio shots for us… yeah… with the nice backdrop, lighting and all… Again, FOC. :D

Best of all was the MC… He was hilarious! Haha… Really lightened the mood there… I laughed till my stomach hurt… Played a few ice breakers… (what ice is there left to break? we’ve been in SCE together for 4 years!!! By now, all melted edi lah!) Food was buffet style… eat all you want… Honestly, we were more engrossed with talking and taking pictures. :P

Anna just couldn't help but charge for the food when the MC said, "Ladies first"!

We played a few games, and many of our friends got sabo-ed… the funniest, SC and Dawai having to act as a Maharaja on horseback trying to find his bride (maiden by the river with a long flowy shawl covering half her face) like in those old Malaysian epic films… We have a video of it!!!!!! …. but lets not embarrass our dear friends any further shall we? Hehe… In another game, Husain was supposed to collect fans… not the turning ones with blades… the supporter kind… :P We had plenty to laugh about. Lol. Turned out to be an pretty enjoyable evening…

THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never longed for the weekend to quickly come so much in my life! This one week has seemed like an eternity. Finally… some time to stone, rest and relax.

I started off my weekend with a movie outing with my JC classmates at The Cathay. We watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince… The show was so-so only really. Not much story… (kinda weird since the book itself is as thick as a brick!)… it was kinda left hanging at the end… I wonder how the last movie will wrap up everything. I’ve read the Harry Potter series till The Goblet of Fire. After that, I just lost the patience. I’ve been reading Agatha Christies ever since. Maybe I’ll give the remaining Harry Potters another go…. after I get through Twilight. Haha… Goodness knows when that will be. :P

Part Time Job – Day One

Tuesday, July 14th, 2:35 amWorkRSS 2.0

In order to be able to pay for my rent next month, I needed to start working… even if it was a part time job. So, today was my first day temping at an IT company. My job is basically to collect data. Easy job but pretty mundane after a very short while. (I started yawning periodically within the first hour… not sure if it’s coz I’m not used to being up so early or the job!… most likely both. :P ) SIGH…….. I miss waking up late and bumming around at home. Say goodbye to that part of my life forever. Now I have to wake up at 7am and reach back home at 8pm. YUCKS!

BUT…

…no matter how early I have to wake up,

…how sleepy I feel while listening to those recordings,

…how late I reach home that there’s practically not much of the day left to do anything,

I’m thankful as well as grateful that I have been given this part time job opportunity… Many thanks to Nicole who roped me in. :D At the very least, the pay will help cover some of my expenses while I wait (seems like freaking forever…) for a permanent position somewhere.

Daddy’s Kereta Baru… :D

Tuesday, July 14th, 2:27 amRandom ThoughtsRSS 2.0

This is a back post…. it’s been sitting in my Drafts section for weeks! Anyway… this was supposed to be a post to show off Daddy’s new car sometime end of last month.

Yup…a spanking new MPV… Proton’s very first… Proton Exora. Why buy an MPV when there’s practically only 2 ppl left back home in Alor Setar? Ask Dad. We hardly sit in his car when we’re back anyway. We usually spin around the town in Mumzie’s trusty little Kenari.

Well… since I was already outside the house feeding mosquitoes, I just continued to feed my shutter-happy-finger’s needs. This picture with the rake below is a rather interesting shot don’t you think? Has this cool whirlpool effect, yes? It was not intended but rather taken by accident. It so happened to center around the rake.
