The weekend just flew by…

Time passes really quickly when you’re enjoying yourself. A 2 day weekend just isn’t enough!

Saturday was a day much anticipated coz I organized a ji mui dinner & drinks (& gossip) outing at Marrakesh.

It’s a moroccan restaurant/bar under Harry’s. You can see ppl calling for this thing called sheesha… or hookah. It’s some smoking pipe thing. Supposedly comes in all kinds of flavours.. but I’ve never tried it (don’t intend to), so don’t ask me. It was really nice to meet up with them just to sit down, chat, eat, drink, and then walk around. The ambience at that place was just right. A cosy corner with sofas an pillows, moroccan style. They had these swings too, but they couldn’t fit the 6 of us. It was such a pity Shuxin couldn’t make it. All ji mui were there except her. Kinda miss her… she’s so energetic! Livens up the mood so much!!

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii….

There’s been a new addition to my house recently… and as you’ve probably already guessed, a Nintendo Wii! How fun is that! … but terribly distracting!! Good exercise for a lazy person like me though…. My back actually ached after playing all the games in Wii Sports… I haven’t been to gym or swam for awhile now. Getting flabbier…. ugh. Tennis is my favourite. Though I always lose to Fred. Grrrr…. I decided doubling with him is a smarter choice… Hahahahah!

The Wii allows us to make customized avatars called Mii… and so… one of the first few things we did was to create Miis for everyone in our house. We have Rachie Mii, Freddie Mii, Debbie Mii, Becky Mii and Shan Mii. We even made a Chinh Mii and a  ****** Mii. (You go figure!) Rachie has make up on her face, Freddie looks perpetually evil… it’s his eyes…. and he has this cute little mole, Debbie Mii has a pony tail and almond eyes, Becky Mii wears spectacles and Shan Mii… well is as cute as a button!

How do you measure a year in the life?

Seasons of Love - Rent the Musical

ALL
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights
In cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.

In five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?

How about love?
How about love?
How about love? Measure in love

Seasons of love. Seasons of love

HOMELESS WOMAN
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes!
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Journeys to plan.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
Of a woman or a man?

COLLINS
In truths that she learned,
Or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned,
Or the way that she died.

ALL
It’s time now to sing out,
Tho’ the story never ends
Let’s celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends
Remember the love!
Remember the love!
Seasons of love!

HOMELESS WOMAN (while ALL sing)
Oh you got to got to
Remember the love!
You know that love is a gift from up above
Share love, give love spread love
Measure measure your life in love.

New CDs in the house…

Wednesday September 17thMusic Category •

Just popped by the cd shop in Jurong Point to look for interesting music. Didn’t really find anything interesting, but I did come across some cds on sale, 2 of which I bought.

The first one that caught my eye was the 50th Anniversary recording of the West Side Story musical by Leonard Bernstein. This one seemed different as it was performed by Hayley Westenra, Vittorio Grigolo and Connie Fisher together with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. It was on sale anyway, so I guess no harm trying it out. The composition is superb. How bad can it get? Well, actually, when I came back to listen to it, I was kind of disappointed. I mean, yeah… their voices are nice… but it lacks the emotion and feeling I would imagine in the actual musical. Seems sort of bland. Hayley lacks the Puerto Rican accent I remember hearing in the musical I went for at the Esplanade about 2 years back.

Pretty sad. But anyway, it was pretty cheap and the composition is still as good as ever. So, I shall not complain. Did you know that the key to West Side Story’s beautiful score is just 3 notes? The notes G, C and F#. They are the opening notes of the show, and throughout the entire score, it appears over and over again in various permutations… These 3 notes also form a unique distorted chord called a tritone, which is neither major nor minor. It’s supposed to represent the harmony of the lovers and discord of the street gangs. Read this in the introduction in the cd booklet written by Jamie Bernstein, Leonard Bernstein’s daughter. Interesting huh? There’s more… but I guess I shall not impose it on you… Hahaha…

Lantern Festival - Hello Kitty Overdose… :S

Monday September 15thEvents Category •

See the lights? That's where the ticketing booth is...

Each year, the Chinese Garden will be lighted with tonnes of lanterns for the Lantern Festival. Entrance is usually free on normal days, but not during the Mid-Autumn Festival month… Despite that, you can see the loooooong queue at the ticketing booth.

This year, the theme was F8-Hello Kitty Go Races. (Something to do with the upcoming Singapore F1 Grand Prix? I dunno…. ) Why I went to go see Hello Kitty? Well… I was too bored I guess. Hahaha… Artha asked me last week if I wanted to go check it out… so I said ok lor. Two obsessive photographers gone wild in Chinese Garden on a Saturday night! Hahah… Okok… maybe just me.

I think I’ve seen enough of Hello Kitty for a long long time…. Maybe you too once you’ve finished reading this post. Enough said, I’ll just leave the viewing to you. The pics are self explanatory.
