In my previous post, I “cut and pasted” details of this event, Night Festival, which featured The Dancing Sky, a spectacular sky performance brought to us from Italy by Studio Festi. The event was jointly organized and held at the National Museum of Singapore and SMU Campus Green.

David

I was really interested to go watch the event and managed to bring along 2 of my ji muis, Paro and Choi Harn to go watch the 11.30pm show with me. (It’s been a long time since we’ve gone for an outing! A late night outing… ) We went for the later show coz yours truly here had to go for another concert earlier that evening. (I’ll blog about this one later when I feel like it.) Yeah, so back to the festival… We reached quite early before the show started. We saw swarms of people walking towards the entrance of the museum and so we thought we had to go in or something. Apparently not. We went in and we were greeted with this 8.5m tall statue of David. It’s a replica of the famous Michaelangelo statue by and Indonesian artist Titirubi. David is wrapped in this kebaya print like fabric. Hmmm.. I wonder if there’s a meaning to it. Anyway, it was the only remaining thing left of the Greek Masterpieces from the Louvre exhibition held sometime last March (which I kinda regret not going to…).

National Museum of Singapore

We really didn’t know where to go so we decided to go ask the info counter personnel for some directions. She told us it was just outside the museum grounds. Best spot to view the whole thing would by the roadside along SMU Campus Green. So, the three of us made our way back there and found a good spot to stand. We were kinda bored so we just snapped pics of the beautifully lighted museum building.

Finally, it started with the opening act, two dancers on the stage, dancing to the song Hijo De La Luna. I simply love this song. So much that I actually went to look for the piano score and listened to all the different versions I could get my hands from YouTube. I recorded a short clip of the dance, though it’s rather blurry. (This is where I would like to take the opportunity to ask if anyone would like to donate a nice semi pro cam/dslr for me to play. :P)

Enjoyed it? I thought it was beautiful. Anyway, that’s just the beginning. More to come.

We also saw this huge ship flying in the air and an acrobat dancing around it. Common sense tells us these things can’t fly. They are actually supported by cables attached to them and steered by people on the ground. It was rather amusing to watch them running about, up and down to make sure the props and the acrobats did not crash. There was even a water sprinkler which sprayed down on the ship and dancer halfway through the performance. Gave it this very nice misty effect. It’s like the ship is being caught in a storm.

Flying ship

Then, we saw this amazing sight! A piano floating in the air, with a ballerina dancing around it and on it. The music was crystal like… I just wonder how the cables can support a grand piano up there. I’m pretty sure it’s hollow.

Flying Piano (Photo credit: http://spoiltforchoice.blogspot.com/)

After this was another act, by two dancers and the moon. It’s interesting how the two dancers can balance themselves around the sphere. Gracefully done.

Like the moon (Photo credit: http://spoiltforchoice.blogspot.com/)

More spheres floating about in the sky. This time, there were two spheres, each had a dancer attached to it. This was really nice as they actually came down low enough for us to touch. I simply love the orange sphere. With the museum and sky as the backdrop, it really looks like a planet.

Orange sphere

Harmony of Spheres

The sky wasn’t the limit. The road was actually blocked up because some of the performances were held there. One of them was this giant blue sphere with a dancer floating inside it. The other street performance was this giant ladies parading down the road. It was really quite cool as we were standing right in front of them.

Queen of the Tides

That was the end of the first segment of the show. The second segment was continued on the SMU Campus Green. I shall continue that in my next post I think. Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with this clip made as a video response to the previous video I posted on YouTube. It’s has short clips of most of the performances that night. Enjoy!

The National Museum first ever Night Festival is set to dazzle with two weekends of spectacular theatrical performances, music, open air cinema and fun interactive activities.

Date: Fri 18 & Sat 19 July 2008

Time: First Show: 9pm - 11pm & Second Show: 11:30pm - 1:30am

Venue: National Museum of Singapore

The Night Festival opens on 18 July with internationally acclaimed Studio Festi from Italy. Known for their extraordinary staging of large-scale outdoor theatrical performances, including the recent 100-Day Countdown to the Beijing Olympics at Macau. Studio Festi will enthrall with the Dancing Sky. The Museum garden and premises will be transformed into a surreal and magical playground with its site-specific masterpiece.

The Festival opens with The Dancing Sky, aerial performances by Studio Festi. Known for staging large scale and visually spectacular performances, audiences can expect a visual spectacle at the first weekend.

Making use of the expansive landscape, the sky is literally the limit as Studio Festi pulls out all the stops with soaring dancers, helium-balloon ‘planets’ and flying ships and pianos.

Programme Highlights:

Queen of the Tides

2 big transparent spheres, 6 metres of diameter, rolling around their own axis, go ahead very slowly in front of the Museum; a girl dances, suspended within the sphere.

Dancer in balloon

Like the Moon

The moon floats between and flying dancers, graceful against the night sky of the Museum frontage.

Floating Dancer

Flying Piano

Suspended in the air, light as melody, is the piano and the pianist as a lone performer dances atop the grand instrument.

Floating Piano

The Progeny of Dreams

Daughters of the night, tall (3 metres above ground), mysterious and magnificent in their multi-colored costumes and mask, will loom over passers-by as they parade down Stamford Road.

The Harmony of the Spheres

Big flying spheres are lifted and with them, dancers take to the sky! They are brought higher and higher and the performance heightens as the spheres leap over and interact with the crowd.

In the Waters of the Sky

A big flying vessel with a female acrobat performs an extraordinary dance in mid-air.

Ship

Title: The World I know

Lyrics:

Has our conscience shown?
Has the sweet breeze blown?
Has all kindness gone?
Hope still lingers on.
I drink myself of newfound pity
Sitting alone in New York City
And I don’t know why.

Are we listening?
Hymns of offering.
Have we eyes to see?
Love is gathering.
All the words that I’ve been reading
Have now started the act of bleeding
Into one.

So I walk up on high
And I step to the edge
To see my world below.
And I laugh at myself
While the tears roll down.
‘Cause it’s the world I know.
It’s the world I know.

And this is one of my favorites out of all the songs he has sung so far. I really love his rendition of it. Even more than the original. No offense to Mariah Carey.

Title: Always Be My Baby

Lyrics:

We were as one babe
For a moment in time
And it seemed everlasting
That you would always be mine

Now you want to be free
So I’m letting you fly
Cause I know in my heart babe
Our love will never die
No!

You’ll always be a part of me
I’m a part of you indefinitely
Girl don’t you know you can’t escape me
Ooh darling cause you’ll always be my baby
And we’ll linger on
Time can’t erase a feeling this strong
No way you’re never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you’ll always be my baby

I ain’t gonna cry no
And I won’t beg you to stay
If you’re determined to leave girl
I will not stand in your way
But inevitably you’ll be back again
Cause ya know in your heart babe
Our love will never end no
You’ll always be a part of me
I’m part of you indefinitely
Girl don’t you know you can’t escape me
Ooh darling cause you’ll always be my baby
And we’ll linger on

Look at us… cooking! Haha…. Becky came home from work and told me that she wanted to cook spaghetti today. This isn’t the first time we tried cooking. The first time round, we made jacket potatoes. Check out our spaghetti bolognese we had tonight…

Ok… we didn’t just eat that. Becky and Rachel tried this particular brand of nuggets sometime ago, which was supposed to be crispy and spicy. So yeah, we got some from Prime Supermarket opposite our house to try.

The jacket potatoes wasn’t really cooked properly. Some parts of it was still kinda hard. But Rachel says apparently, these kind of potatoes are like that. Maybe I’ll try leave them in the oven longer the next time i attempt this.

I bet you’re wondering why we had nachos for dinner. Honestly, I don’t know too. It’s just random. Becky just poured some out in a plate and we started munching.

‘Family’ time in front of the tv, watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S.! I’ve watched the entire series before, (yes… all 10 seasons!) but I don’t think I can ever get sick of it.

I’ve been telling Paro and Becky that I actually wanna learn how to cook stuff. Like proper cooking. Something like buying a cookbook and trying a recipe once a week or something. Two problems though, cooking is not exactly cheap, especially if it’s for one. Also, I don’t think I’ll have all the time in the world when school actually starts. Seems like I’ll have to put that on hold for the time being. Oh well, it’s not that I can’t cook at all. My grandma has actually been teaching me some simple Canto dishes each time I go visit. You dare try my cooking? :p

An afternoon spent with a bunch of pretty big words and terms here. Just so that I can someday come back and read this again, My notes are going to be put down here.

Christian Theology

Biblical Theology

Historical Theology

eg. John 3:16. “… His only begotton Son…. ” The Greek work for ‘begotton’ is monogenes. Used in the Old Testament to refer to Isaac…. unique. (Interesting read)

Christian Doctrine (Systematic Theology)

Theology Proper

about God

Bibliology

about the Bible (Word of God)

revelation of God

Christology

about Jesus Christ (Son of God)

Soteriology

about Salvation (Work of God)

NOTE: I so happened to read online that there are more of this stuff that we didn’t list out in bible study. Here’s a list of the more stuff I mentioned.

So, that was an introduction to our main subject of today’s study on Soteriology. We discussed the Ordus Salutis. The Ordo Salutis also known as the Order of Salvation, the theological doctrine that deals with the logical sequencing of the benefits of Salvation worked by Christ which are applied to us by the Spirit.

This order we talked about is based on from the scripture in Romans 8:29-30.

29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. (NKJV)

So, as we examined that passage, the order goes as follows:

Election (ordination/predestination/chosen/forknew)

always results in the goal

Romans 8:28

Gospel call (effectual calling)

Regeneration (quickening/made alive)

Conversion (repent & receive)

Justification (legal pronouncement - not guilty/acquittal)

Adoption (legal pronouncement - you are mine)

Call Him ‘Abba Father’ (Romans 8:15)

Holy Spirit bears witness (Romans 8:16-17)

as sons by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4-6)

to redeemed (Galatians 4:4-6)

Sanctification (consecration/dedication/offering)

Ephesians 1:3

Perseverance (Our part)/Preservation (God’s part)

How we live our lives as children of God.

God preserves us by seal, a guarantee that we cannot lose our salvation (Ephesians 3:13)

Glorification

glory belongs to God (Ephesians 3:1-13)

it is shared with us (Romans 8:17, Romans 8:30)

Common Grace vs. Saving Grace

Is God fair that he saves some and not all?

John 3:16 says:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)

God so loved the WORLD. Common grace was for all of us to choose to receive but saving grace is only given to those who chose to respond to the gospel call.

Salvation was offered FOR ALL but not given TO ALL.

In conclusion, are my thoughts on this issue. There are many arguments on the different orders of salvation. Basically an argument of whether it begins with God’s election or man’s conversion. Are we elected because we have faith, or are we elected even before we were born. The very stand we take on this would make a very big difference. If it started with God’s election, then salvation was initiated by God and he will preserve us. What starts with God will end with God. If it was man who initiated by receiving the gospel, then man would have to persevere to sustain his salvation (eg. in acts of good work). And as we know, we are not perfect and we may fail at times, doesn’t that mean we can lose our salvation?

I leave you with this essay and one verse to think about, Romans 9:11.

11 (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), (NKJV)

As u probably would have noticed (if you read my blog often that is…), I’ve changed my blog theme. Yes. For the millionth time. I’m bored of the boring old grey and purple theme, though I did think it was quite elegant in a way… This time, I chose a floral design. Coded the CSS from scratch using a Sandbox. I haven’t totally finished it though. Still plenty to do, but that’s enough of coding and Photoshopping for me for one day. Keep in tuned for more updates and additions.

Things to do:

Tweak the theme so that the sidebar doesn’t cross into the footer section. (Happens only if the post is very short.)

Add in the codes for the plugins.
