What’s cooking at home…

Friday August 29thDesign Category •

Mumzie just emailed me with updates about the church and how things are coming up there. For those who don’t know, my church back home in Alor Star has been talking about moving to our own premises for eonsĀ  years…. Finally, everything is nearly done, and we are scheduled to move in September.

During my 1 week break, I was home helping out with some of the little preparations. My Mumzie and some of the aunties were given the tasks by Pastor to get curtains, make banners and preparing the dedication service guestbook. My 1 week break was pretty much spent having meetings, going on site to take measurements (yes, while the renovation work is still being done) and taking a sweep through textile shops in this little town looking for curtain fabric and banner materials!

My job was to design the banners for one of the side walls in the church. Here’s my initial design (Inspired by the banners in Rachel’s church.):

Banner Design

As you know, Alor Star is a small town and we have limited resources…. So, we had to make slight adaptations to the exact colour of fabric used. The actual making of the banners were executed by 4 of us, Mumzie, Aunty Siew Lan, Aunty Chua and myself (only the lettering part coz I had to go back to Singapore the next day!). Some pics of us hard at work!

After much blood sweat and tears, here’s the finished product…. TADA!

Yesterday, they had their first congregational meeting in the new church premises at Ampang Place. The church looks so much more like a church now! Looking good. :) The last time I went, the construction work was still in progress. Cement, nails, pools of muddy water all over!

How I wish I could be there right now!

Love, Debbie...
